The Way We Were: The Home of Jacob and Annie Seitz

An immigrant family from Germany, the Seitz' had an early home near Pope's Creek.

This home was constructed by Henry Seitz’ family near the Pope’s Creek Railroad line, which is still in use today by coal trains heading to Southern Maryland.

Immigrants from Germany, the Seitz family came to America in 1844, and settled in Huntington City in the 1870’s. Henry’s son, Jacob, along with his wife Annie, built the house on the land that Henry gave him in the late 1800s.

The house was typical for the area, with a turn of the century t-shaped floor plan and decorative pyramidal tower.
