SPEAK OUT: Share Thoughts on School Lunches in Bowie

As the state celebrates local farms and healthy food, Patch wants to know what you think about school lunches.

When you think of "school lunches," do you visualize healthy meals with fresh fruits and vegetables?

Monday marked the beginning of Maryland Homegrown School Lunch Week. Gov. Martin O’Malley chose to celebrate the week of Sept. 23-27 to ensure more local fresh food is served in schools while helping students make the connection between healthy food and local farms.

"Buying locally is key to ensuring a smart, green and growing future for Maryland families. It preserves farmland, protects the environment, bolsters local economies, and provides wholesome, nutritious, great-tasting fresh food,” said O’Malley in a press release. “We are extremely encouraged that all 24 of our public school systems and some private schools are participating in this important, educational program.”
