School Closing/Delay Information for Prince George's County

The National Weather Service is expecting 4 inches to up to 8 inches of snow in Bowie and Prince George’s County Sunday night and Monday. So, what does that mean for schools?

There has been no announcement on school closings for Monday in Prince George’s County.

A decision is usually made by 5 a.m. if school schedules will be changed. The first alert is posted on the district’s website and at PGCPS on Facebook.

County road crews will hit the streets starting at 8 tonight, according to a news release. Crews will concentrate on the primary and major collector roadways first, and then will move into the residential areas to plow and treat the roads.

“Weather forecasters are predicting rain beginning Sunday evening and changing to snow Sunday night,” said Darrell Mobley, director of the Department of Public Works and Transportation. “Roadway conditions may become hazardous, and motorists are encouraged to use caution.”

Drivers are advised to drive safely and to remember these safety tips:

• Add extra time for travel;
• Keep a safe distance between your car and the car in front of you;
• Do not follow the snow plow trucks; and
• Use caution when driving over bridges, ramps and overpasses.

County residents are asked to park on the even-numbered sides of residential streets or in their driveways to assist the crews in clearing the roadways. Final plowing on residential roadways will not occur until after the snow ends. Driveways and mailboxes will have snow in front of them as a result of the plowing operation. Residents are reminded to shovel their driveways after plowing has occurred and to remove snow from the sidewalks abutting their homes and businesses.
