Report: 4 Maryland Counties Top-Populated in the Nation

More than half of the population of the United States lives in less than 5 percent of the country’s counties, according to some number crunching done by Business Insider. 

That’s nearly 160 million people in fewer than 150 counties -- and four of those counties (and one city) are in Maryland.

According to Business Insider, the 146 biggest counties are home to half of the U.S. Population. The counties in Maryland (with 2012 population estimates courtesy of the US Census) make up a little more than one percent of the US population: 

Montgomery County – Population 1 million

Prince George’s County – Population 880,000

Baltimore County – Population 817,000

Baltimore City – Population 621,000

Anne Arundel County – Population 550,000

Baltimore City was the only incorporated city on the list.
