Driver Swerves to Avoid Animal, Hits Speed Camera Near Whitehall Elementary

Although the housing for the camera was damaged, the cameras themselves are taken out at night and replaced in the morning, according to police.

One of the city's new speed cameras—well, at least its housing—was badly damaged after a driver said they lost control of their G Series Infiniti sedan after swerving to avoid an animal on Sunday morning, according to Bowie's Chief of Police, John Nesky.

The cameras are removed from their hosing locations each evening and replaced in the morning. The camera wasn't in the housing when the driver ran into it because it was the weekend. Nesky said the vendor will likely go through the driver's insurance to be reimbursed for the damages.
