Arctic Blast: Prince George's Weather Timeline to Below-Zero Temps

The National Weather Service has issued a wind chill advisory for the region through Tuesday evening.

The National Weather Service has issued a wind chill advisory for Prince George's County through 6 p.m. Tuesday night, as a blast of arctic air descends upon the region.

Wind chill values in the county are expected as low as -5 to -15 degrees overnight and Tuesday. Temperatures tonight will fall into the teens, and then into the single digits. Highs Tuesday are expected to be in the teens.

NWS predicts the lowest wind chills will happen after midnight through Tuesday morning. Strong winds from the west are also expected from 15 mph to 25 mph, with gusts as high as 35 mph.

A wind chill advisory is issued when low temperatures and high winds combine to create dangerous low wind chills. Low wind chills could lead to frostbite or hypothermia. Anyone going outdoors should wear a hat and gloves.

Here's the weather timeline for the next few days.

Monday Night: Bitter Cold Starts
Get ready to bundle up. Temperatures will plummet to 6 degrees for a low (and that's not even the wind chill temperature). Expect wind chills of 12 below after midnight.

Tuesday: Bitter Cold
Kids will really need to dress warmly for school, with temperatures reaching only 15 degrees for a high on Tuesday and a wind chill of 12 below during the day.

Tuesday Night: Bitter Cold
Cold temperatures linger, with lows of 6 degrees for Tuesday night. Wind chill of 1 below.

Prince George's will begin to pull out of the deep freeze by Wednesday, when the area will see a "balmy" high in the lower 30s.
