Submit Your Radio or Television Personal Finance Story!

RTDNA / NEFE Excellence in Personal Finance Reporting Award

The Radio Television Digital News Association and the National Endowment for Financial Education are honoring the best in personal finance reporting. Registration for entries from TV, radio and online outlets in all market sizes are being accepted through July 26, 2013. Click here to enter your submission or log on to the RTDNA website. Entry fees are $25 for RTDNA members and $50 for non-members.

The award is being presented as part of the Money Matters resource on the RTDNA website. Money Matters is a tool to help news personnel better cover stories about financial issues.

Winners will receive a $1,000 prize, complimentary registration to the 2013 Excellence in Journalism convention in Anaheim, CA, along with round trip economy-class airfare and two nights hotel. Award recipients will be featured panelists at the Money Matters session to discuss their winning entry (details to be provided upon being named a winner). The ability to participate in the Money Matters session is a requirement of winning the award.

Entry Requirements
Submissions must:

  • Be from a television or radio broadcast outlet or online news operation. Broadcast entries may also have appeared on the station’s website; submissions from corporate website blogs or non-news related sites will not be considered
  • Be focused on an aspect of personal finance
  • Demonstrate keen understanding and clear presentation of a newsworthy financial topic
  • Exhibit an obvious commitment to educating and empowering news consumers to consistently make healthy, educated financial decisions
  • Show an exceptionally creative approach to research, story gathering, using sources, and reporting
  • Set a standard as industry-leading financial journalism
  • Have aired on TV or radio or appeared online from January 31, 2012, through award submission cutoff date of July 26, 2013
  • May not be longer than 10 minutes in length (video or audio)
  • Must be available through an external site (e.g. YouTube, Vimeo, etc.) or hosted via an external URL (station website for example) that can be provided to RTDNA in the application

Entrants Agree That:

  • The entry is consistent with the standards set out in the RTDNA Code of Ethics and its accompanying coverage guidelines.
  • The entry was created and transmitted to the public as represented on the entry form and that the entry has been submitted with the knowledge and approval of the News Director or General Manager.
  • The program materials submitted may be used by RTDNA to publicize the awards program and for other non-broadcast educational purposes.
  • If chosen as a winner and they cannot attend the EIJ conference to accept the award (or a suitable representative from the outlet as deemed by RTDNA and NEFE), they will forfeit the prize and an alternate winner will be chosen.
