The Prince George’s County Memorial Library System (PGCMLS) will go cashless effective Oct. 1. Major credit and debit cards will be accepted to include Mastercard, Visa and Discover. Customers will now be paying by credit or debit card rather than cash for overdue books, CDs and DVDs as well as fines. Payments can be made at library branches or online. People are also able to have an account that can be drawn down and add to that account as needed with a credit or debit card.
“This is another step in creating innovative and streamlined operations to better serve our customers and a natural extension of our self-checkout, e-commerce, wireless, disc Xpress, self-pickup for holds and other similar service,” explained Kathleen Teaze, director of PGCMLS. “Cashless libraries have been very successful in other jurisdictions including the District of Columbia, and we look forward to it working very well for us.”
For the convenience of customers who still prefer to pay with cash, cash transactions will still be accepted at the Greenbelt, Hyattsville, Oxon Hill, South Bowie and Spauldings branch libraries.
