Bowie Senior Chorale Holiday Concert
This year’s Senior Chorale holiday concert theme is “An Olde Tyme Holiday” and includes a selection of Christmas, Hanukkah and other holiday music.
“Riu, Riu Chiu” is a Spanish Villancicos or Christmas Carol that was first printed in 1556. “Thys Yool, ” is a Medieval Christmas poem set to music in which Director Sparks encourages the Chorale to “Sing with raucous energy, like a drinking song.” “Ose Shalom” has a traditional Hebrew text and tune.
Of course, there will also be arrangements of traditional Christmas Carols like “What Child is This?” and “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing.” And certainly the “Hallelujah Chorus” from Handel’s Messiah is familiar to everyone, but hearing it sung by over 100 voices will stir your emotions. These are only a few of the selections which will certainly put you in the holiday spirit
