'Star Trek Into Darkness' Trailer, Reviews and Showtimes in Bowie

One critic says the film eclipses its 2009 predecessor.

Trekkies, rejoice! "Star Trek Into Darkness" opened on Thursday night, and is getting some decent reviews.  According to the film's official website, Captain Kirk (Chris Pine) and the crew of the Enterprise return to earth to find it in a state of crisis. Kirk embarks on a manhunt to stop the destruction. "As our heroes are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew," states the website. Here's a listing of showtimes in and around Bowie: Here's what critics are saying: "Star Trek Into Darkness" is rated PG-13 for PG-13 for intense sequences of sci-fi action and violence. The movie runs 132 minutes.

Scott Fitzgerald's 1925 novel The Great Gatsby swings into theaters this weekend.  The story takes place in the summer of 1922 and follows Nick, as aspiring bond broker, and his summertime acquaintance with millionaire Jay Gatsby. Smithsonian to Suffer More Severe Sequestration Stoppages

Closing exhibits will not be replaced to save on security costs.

Exhibits that are scheduled to close at the Hirshhorn, National Museum of African Art and Smithsonian will not be replaced due to sequestration, according to a Smithsonian spokeswoman. Linda St. Thomas told the DCist website that “in terms of the security of our visitors, bigger crowds require more security,” but she added, “Every museum is still open every day.” The actual number of exhibits accessible to visitors at open museums are yet another casualty of sequestration. On April 16, Smithsonian Secretary G. Wayne Clough warned Congress of the potential effects of sequestration on the area’s museums - gallery closings, reduced educational program offerings and building maintenance issues. The spring production of Prince George's Little Theatre is set to run through May 18.

27th Annual Filmfest DC to Feature more than 80 International Films

Oscar nominee Julian Assange biopic and more to air during 11-day festival.

Since the first event in 1987, Filmfest DC has shown more than 1,000 feature-length and short films from more than 55 countries, with celebrity guests including Morgan Freeman, Charlize Theron, Sydney Pollack, Salman Rushdie and Amitabh Bachchan. The 27th installment of the annual event runs from April 11-21, and will kick-off with a screening of Underground, a film portraying the young life of Julian Assange, the infamous founder of WikiLeaks. The film will air at 7 p.m. at Regal Cinemas Gallery Place and feature a live telephone interview with Assange himself immediately following the screening.
