Vote to Help Bowie State Win Grant Money

Vote online through April 10 to help the university receive a Retool Your School grant for campus improvement projects.

Bowie State University is in the running to receive a Retool Your School campus improvement grant and you can help by voting online through April 10. The program, sponsored by Home Depot, is designed to help historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) make enduring improvements to their campus and facilities, according to the Retool Your School website.

The grant information states that the funds available total $185,000 for 13 grants based on a ratio of voting and advisory board panel selection, but the $25,000 Campus Pride Grant will be awarded solely on votes.

The grant money will reportedly go towards an improvement project that will have a lasting impact on the campus. BSU's proposed projects include:

  • Upgrading water fountains with an advanced water filtration system.
  • Creating an outdoor landscaped study lounge area outfitted with eco-friendly furniture.
  • Improving campus refuse receptacles by replacing the temporary containers with sturdy long-lasting, weatherproof recycling bins throughout campus common areas.

BSU is currently ranked 30th out of 66 schools with a little more than 2,200 votes. The school in first place has 70,000-plus votes and Washington, DC-based Howard University has more than 11,000.
