What would you like to see fill this 10,453 square foot space on Mitchellville road in Bowie?

Once the home of a Tweeter, an electronics chain that has been defunct since 2008, this 10,453 square foot space at 4501 Mitchellville Rd. in Bowie Gateway Center has be sitting vacant for quite sometime.

It sits adjacent to a Sprint store and is nearby to several large anchor stores, including Kohls, Target and Home Depot. With its proximity to several major roadways in Bowie and its own dedicated parking lot, this empty building should be prime real estate.

And, at just over 10,000 square feet, this spot is just the right size for a certain specialty grocery chain that Bowie residents have been yearning for years.

What would you like to see fill the vacant Tweeter? A new restaurant? Another retail store? A certain elusive grocery chain? Tell us in the comments.

We could use a gourmet/specialty shop.....Trader Joes or Dean & DeLuca!

Fortunately/unfortunately that building does not have the parking lot that is required to support a high-volume merchant, such as a grocery store. How about moving the Sprint store to another building, razing the entire building and leaving it open space? As more merchants move from the Town Center to Crofton and beyond these empty stores will become quite the eyesore. Mark my words that in another 5 years the Town Center will be about as prosperous as the Blvd at Capital Centre, where the crime is so bad that they had to institute a policy where those under 18 must be accompanied by an adult after 9:00pm. The Town Center is well on its way down the same path - petty criminals, anchor stores leaving, too many 'for lease' signs. Wait until Sears (aka K-Mart) goes out of business - it's coming.

@Sharp Shooter, I hope you are wrong, b/c that would be very sad for our area (I live right behind the Town Center and would hate to see it go completely downhill). I suppose the Crofton area would serve more people. Ann Taylor Loft's lease is good up until 2014, where they may not continue. American Eagle is also talking about leaving. I am glad that Rack Room left and put in Charming Charlie - however, that "Gussini" is nothing but junk, as another store is just like it a few doors down. Fortunately, for now, Bath and Body Works and Victorias Secret are staying. Personally, I like the Town Center where it is, but expanding the location around where Target and Kohls is would have made more sense and brought in more business, b/c where the Town Center is now is kind of removed.....

A merchant to replace it? I say bring in a Trader Joe's, but we've been saying that, and nothing is happening...Yes, it is time to move, but the property values are WAY down right now....
