Update on Safeway Parking Lot Gunpoint Robbery

The suspects stole prescription drugs from the victim as he was walking to his truck from the pharmacy in Safeway.

The victim of Thursday afternoon's robbery—a 44-year-old man from Lothian, MD—said he was walking out to his vehicle when he was approached by a man who tried to grab his bag, which contained the prescription drugs oxycodone and methadone.

Both drugs are narcotic painkillers, and methodone is often used to help prevent withdrawl symptoms in patients addicted to opiates.

The victim resisted the suspect, and threw the bag into a truck being driven by his friend and attempted to get in on the passenger side of the vehicle. He was then approached by another man who showed a handgun and took the prescriptions from the man.

Both suspects fled on foot to the rear of Taco Bell towards Scarlet Oaks Terrace according to Acting Chief of Police John Nesky.

A perimiter was set up by police and the K-9 unit attempted to track the suspects, but was unsuccessful.

@Morgan Young-- Come on, Boo Boo . . . Bowie is just as susceptible to crime as any other part of PG County. A lot of the county's criminals call Bowie home.

Real Talk, The majority of offenders in Bowie come from outside Bowie. As far as Bowie being just as susceptible to crime as any other part of PG County, I don't think it's reached that level, but if you look at Morgan Young's profile, she grew up in Bowie - during a time when stuff like this was very unusual. That's all that she was saying.

According to national crime statistics, Bowie is safer than 95% of all American cities, so Morgan is right to feel like Bowie is a safe place, and Joe Neighbor is right that most crime in Bowie comes from offenders outside of Bowie.

Can this story be any more unusual? The suspects obviously knew what prescription the victim had. Did they stake out the Safeway waiting for someone to fill a subscription of oxycodone and methodone? Unlikely. The suspects were probably familiar with the victim, and they probably followed him there knowing what he was doing.

Sounds like BS to me. This guy fabricated the robbery story to get more drugs, or so it sounds to me.... just a theory of course.

jake--that's my first thought as well. It's horrible that's what comes to mind, but it's not as if it hasn't happened before..

I still think we should have some type of description of the suspects. Why aren't there security cameras at that location?

Most suspect descriptions are fairly useless except in the first minutes after a crime occurs, unless you have a pic from a video camera. It seems we have fairly useless descriotions here as well.

Suspect # 1 Blk/M/unknown description
Suspect #2 Wht/M/5’9, 155 lbs/brown hooded sweatshirt/green camouflage pants

I don't know how suspect 2 can only weigh 155 pounds. Must be a junky :)

With regards to your question about the security cameras, no one has said whether or not there are any there.

He's out on the street pending trial cuz his family posted a $50,000 bond for him. And how much time do you think he's going to get anyway. A junkie robs a junkie. Who really cares.
