The New Me

Eating healthy, getting in shape and looking towards the future.

Haven’t written an article lately…I have been concentrating on eating healthy and working out, thanks to The 17 Day Diet and .  Partially because my oldest daughter is getting married in August and my 25th high school reunion is the end of July, and for some reason I haven’t gotten pregnant as usual.

I know that sounds strange to most of you who don’t really know me well, but our family just kinda gets used to having another baby around the house when the baby turns about 18 months. This is the longest I haven’t been pregnant in 22 years.

Stop rolling your eyes John Rouse, you know how cute my kids are and we just love having a little one around to hold and cherish.  When asked by others when were gonna stop having babies my husband always says, “When I have an ugly one!”

So we have gone strong so far.  We are kinda hoping for twin girls to even out the score. I mean I always wanted to say, “Seven Boys, Seven Girls…now that’s family planning!” like great Mr. Casey from the  'B' section in  Bowie, always said to me.

Knowing that God has a great sense of humor, I’ll probably get pregnant when I am 47 and all my big helpers have moved away. My 11 year old announced to me when he found out our friends were having their seventh baby, “MOM, you gotta catch up!”

Silly home-schooler doesn’t know 12 is greater than 7. He is one of the baby lovers and just can’t pass up a cute newborn face when he sees one. It is also difficult for me since many of the moms I hang with are all pregnant. My oldest warned me years ago when I had five teens that I wasn’t a “new mom” anymore and I needed to realize that, even though I was hanging with all these young mommas and there little ones.

I actually had to start cleaning out the baby stuff. Usually I am pregnant when the toddler is done using something and just put it away till the new baby arrives. I can’t bear to think about never cuddling my newborn and nursing for hours on end, what a special time for me and my wee ones. Ok, I am gonna start to cry.  Well, my mantra has always been, “Thy Will Be Done!” So I will just let nature take it’s course and keep exercising and eating well.

More about this eating well and exercising thing. I actually have thought that I could have some type of eating disorder since I like food so much and have always had a huge appetite. Well, mind you I have been pregnant for about 110 months (one miscarriage) which makes me pregnant for a little over 9 years…then you add the approximately 14 years of nursing babies (weaned them between 12 to 15 months).

So I have given myself lots of excuses to eat like a football player. When you add me turning 43 to the mix, the weight just decided to stick around more than usual. So after seeing my girlfriend shed about 30lbs, I decided it was about time I started watching what I eat and stepping up my lame exercising routine.  I bought the seventeen day diet book and decided I could do anything for 17 days. It worked just like they said it would in the book if I followed the simple rules for the beginning.

If you’re interested you gotta get the book because you are going to want to write in it and take notes. Here are Some general guidelines for the first 17 days called from a previous column.
