The Muffin Man is Coming to Bowie
Lanham Favorite to Open Second Location in Bowie
The muffin man is coming to town, the Muffin Man Caribbean Cafe that is. The Jamaican eatery and carry-out is located in Seabrook Shopping Center. A second location in Hilltop Plaza is set to open early this spring.
Cafe owner Roderick O'Savio said Bowie was the perfect choice for the new restaurant.
"Bowie is a highly populated area and a lot of our customers are from Bowie," he said.
The eatery features the traditional dishes of the O'Savio's homeland of Jamaica -- roti, curried meats, and jerk chicken -- and gourmet muffins.
Since O'Savio started the restaurant with his wife and partner Sherri, O'Savio in 1996 the Caribbean cuisine and most especially the muffins have become a local favorite. Over sized muffins in a variety of flavors, from speckled chocolate- chocolate chip to green-tinged tropical lime, fill the display case at Muffin Man Cafe.
The unique muffins are sold for $2.99 each and $29.99 a dozen with the famous carrot cake muffins going for a little more at $4.25 each and $37 a dozen
Among the 26 flavors available, the carrot cake and sweet potato muffins are some of the hardest to keep behind the display glass according to the O'Savio's.
Sherrie O'Savio attributes the restaurant's success to their strong work ethic and quality standards.
"We try to put the best Caribbean food out there that we can," she said.
The business expansion is the continuation of a dream, according to Roderick O'Savio.
"We are just happy that people like what we do," he said. I love cooking, it's a passion of mine and I can't believe it has gotten to this point."
With the addition of a new location and building, customers can expect some other extras at the Bowie restaurant, including a bar.
O'Savio said that the achievements of the Seabrook cafe and the location of the new restaurant will help to make the expansion a success.
"I'm a little slower in the expansion than most businesses, but we're comfortable with the pace we're going," he said.

What a dream come true!..We've stopped by the Lanham location for years picking up muffings for home and office meetings. They are truly one of a kind. Bowie is so lucky to have a gem.
