The Baysox Give Back
The team is accepting donations and family nominations for their annual Louie's Holiday Hope Project.
For the sixth consecutive year, the Bowie Baysox are bring back Louie’s Holiday Hope Project to help local families in need during the holiday season.
Last year, the the project was able to help 21 families with 48 children and hopes to help even more this year through onigoing partnerships with the Prince George’s County Fire Department, the Bowie Police Department and Bowie Youth & Family services, according to a press release.
The program began in 2007 by helping out a couple of local families. Brian Shallcross, the Baysox general manager, is pleased with the program’s growth.
“Our partners and our fans have rallied behind Louie through donations and also for finding local families whose holidays we can make a little more enjoyable,” Shallcross said in the press release.
Fans and residents who know of a family in need are asked to email Louie, the Baysox mascot, at email@example.com, and to include a phone number if more information is required. Recipients should be nominated by Friday, Dec. 7, at 5 p.m. All information submitted is confidential.
According to Brandan Kaiser, marketing manager for the Baysox, this year’s event is already off to a great start.
“Through several events held during the season, we have already collected tons of toys to donate to area kids this holiday season and we really appreciate our fans support of this program,” Kaiser said in the release.
Prince George’s Stadium, located at 4101 Crain Highway in Bowie, is serving as a drop off point for donations of new or gently used winter coats, new socks and other warm clothing. Donations can be left at the Baysox front office Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
