SPEAK OUT: What Did You Think of the Olympics Closing Ceremony?

Are you sad to see the Olympics go? What did you think of the closing ceremony?

The 2012 Summer Olympics officially ended last night with memorable performances from The Who, George Michael and of course, a Spice Girls reunion.

Olympians have returned home – some, like Bethesda swimmer Katie Ledecky, with gold medals.

Other Montgomery County Olympians, like rhythmic gymnast Julie Zetlin and Darnestown kayaker Caroline Queen, may not have taken home a medal, but they still made Olympic history in their own ways.

Zetlin, another Bethesda native, was the first U.S. rhythmic athlete to compete at the Olympics since 2004 and the only American in this year’s competition.

Queen wrote in a personal essay that though she wished she had finished better, she was still honored to compete in the games.

Overall the U.S. had a pretty successful Summer Olympics, leading in both gold medals and total medals, with 46 and 104 in the respective categories.

The closing ceremony also offered a little preview of what the world can expect when Brazil hosts the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio De Janeiro, with a performance of the Carnival festival, samba music and dance and a guest appearance by Brazilian soccer player, Pelé.

What did you think of the closing ceremonies? Will you miss tuning into the Olympics every day?

Olympics events themselves were great with many riveting moments. Underwhelming closing ceremony. Wondered if those in attendance got a headache.

Brazil's small sample was better than the entire British opening and closing ceremony. I did enjoy seeing Mike Oldfield, thought.

Liked the closing ceremony better; less chaotic, although too long and, at least, our news reporters learned to say less than at the beggining.

The ceremony was good the coverage was bad. What was NBC thinking when it shut coverage down at 11:00 to show some upcoming sitcom? Had to wait another hour to get an extra 35 minutes of coverage!? On a work night?!
