Smart Meter Installation Resumes in Bowie Oct.15

BGE will now call Bowie residents prior to smart meter installation.

Though delayed for an additional week due to requests made by the Bowie City Council, Baltimore Gas and Electric (BGE) will resume smart meter installation in Bowie on Oct. 15, according to a status report issued by City Manager David Deutsch.

Mike Fowler, local affairs manager for BGE, communicated to Deutsch that BGE would be using a phone dialer program to notify Bowie residents of impending smart meter installation going forward, though he said some residents may receive the calls until after installation.

BGE will also take photos of door hangers they leave after each installation as part of their record keeping, according to the status report.

Approximately 3,500 Bowie residents have received smart meters and around 17,000 more are scheduled for installation. The status report also indicated that BGE plans to hold another smart meter open house in Bowie, but the date for this has not been set.

Earlier this year, the Public Service Commission ruled that customers have the right to defer the smart meter installation until the matter has been further investigated. Anyone interested in deferring the installation of a smart meter should contact BGE at:
