Police Warn of Traffic Tied to Wegmans Opening

Signs on Route 3 warn of a "major event" Sunday. The store will open at 7 a.m.

Area residents should expect heavy traffic Sunday when the new Wegmans store opens at the Waugh Chapel Towne Centre.

With Wegmans set to open at 7 a.m., Anne Arundel County police said they are working with store officials to mitigate traffic problems.

"With the grand opening festivities, we expect plenty of people and vehicles in and around the area of Waugh Chapel Village," police said in an email to the community. "You should plan accordingly for potential traffic disruption and delays."

There are currently signs on Route 3 warning of a "major event" Sunday. Police said there will be additional signs offering direction during the store opening.

Police noted that there are several ways to access the store parking lot. Cars can turn into the lot on Evergreen Road right at Wegmans, but also at the main shopping center entrace at Brickhead Road. Additionally, cars can turn into the Village at Waugh Chapel center, which connects to Waugh Chapel Town Centre.

Do you think the weather will skunk the Wegman's opening, or will citizens still flock to the new store?
