Police say Ernesto Rodriguez, 24, brandished a gun to steal cash from Hunan Gardens.

Police say a local man was arrested Wednesday and charged with an armed robbery at Hunan Gardens, a Chinese restaurant on Mt. Oak Road.

Bowie police gave this account of the incident:

Police responded to a call for an armed robbery at Hunan Gardens at around 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The restaurant manager gave a description of the suspect, who he said brandished a handgun and demanded money from the cash register.

The suspect took the money and fled the scene in a red SUV, according to the report. A Bowie police unit recognized the description of the suspect know subject they had recently seen in the area.

Police canvassed the area near the suspect’s home and were able to locate the vehicle that was seen fleeing the scene of the robbery. The suspect, Ernesto Rodriguez, Jr., 24, was in the vehicle, and the police recovered a handgun and other evidence.

Rodriguez was taken into custody and is facing armed robbery, theft, weapons and multiple assault charges.

This is that man's THIRD arrest for armed robbery - not to mention other previous arrests for drugs.... Perhaps the judges will do their job this time and put the man away so the police don't have to keep chasing him around.

This is why gun crimes and gun related deaths are so big in MD. Instead of putting violent crime offenders away for long sentences they continually let them back out on the street. SB-281 and HB 429 are supposed to lower gun related crime but they would do nothing to this repeat offender. Tell your elected officials in the House and the Senate to abandon support for those bills and put bills in place that address repeat violent offenders and criminals who use a gun in the commission of a crime.

Way to go, BPD! Now, perhaps this guy can be put away long enough to make a difference? I agree that sb-281 and hb-429 are idiotic non-answers to gun crime like that described in the article.
