President Barack Obama will be in Largo on Thursday morning to speak about the role community colleges play in finding innovative energy solutions. Obama will speak at the Novak Field House on the campus of Prince George's Community College (PGCC).
The speech is expected to highlight how community colleges can partner with businesses to prepare today’s workforce professionals in a variety of skilled trades—including weatherization, green construction and information technology, according to a release from PGCC.
Other participants in the program will include:
- Charlene M. Dukes, president of PGCC.
- Corey Lamar Blocker, a music student at PGCC and member of the college's gospel choir, who will sing the national anthem.
- Makarim Muhammad, who is studying pre-medicine at PGCC. She will lead the audience in the Pledge of Allegiance.
- Kadeem Adrian Palmer, a psychology student at PGCC, who will deliver the invocation.
The Novak Field House and Robert I. Bickford Natatorium are closed and will reopen at 4 p.m. on Thursday.
