More Than 500 Bowie BGE Customers Still in the Dark

After six days without power, 561 Bowie customers are still waiting to have their electricity restored.

According to Baltimore, Gas and Electric Co. officials, as of 11 a.m. July 5, 561 customers were still without power in Bowie as a result of last Friday's storm, and crews are in the city working on restoration.

City officials also report the Bowie Senior Center will no longer operate as a 24-hour cooling center, but the Bowie Gym will remain a cooling center July 5 and July 6 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. St. Matthews Church also is a cooling center those same dates from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Yard waste rules will remain relaxed for this week, but the city asked residents to bundle what they can and drag the rest of the debris to the curb for removal. There is no need to call and request debris removal. Crews are picking up debris now, but the city anticipates this will take some time.

Both Verizon and Comcast are still reporting problems throughout the region, so telephone and cable service are still interrupted for some customers.

I wonder if this would be the case if there were more power providers.
