Letter to the Editor: Support Raaheela Ahmed for School Board

The Reform Sasscer Movement throws their support behind the 19-year-old candidate for the District 5 Board of Education seat.

Dear Bowie Residents,

We, the undersigned, who serve to transform the Prince George’s County Public Schools (PGCPS) as your non-partisan and concerned citizen leaders of the wide Prince George’s County community which includes the city of Bowie are all enthusiastically supporting Ms. Raheela Ahmed, for the upcoming non-partisan School Board Election in District 5 serving the Bowie area.

As you know, our school system has many challenges facing it in the near term; the hiring of a new school superintendent, shrinking resources from our state government and recruitment/retention of the best and brightest teachers to instruct our children. Ms. Ahmed, who is a past student of PGCPS and currently a honor roll student at the University of Maryland is untainted by corruption.

To change things in Prince George’s County Public schools, we must elect the right leadership of Ms. Ahmed and reject the other side.

We have each interviewed Ms. Ahmed and she has assured us that she will work very hard to create transparency and accountability within the school system. Ms. Ahmed will serve as a role model for our children and County by showing that hard work and doing the right things in life has its rewards. She will be a great example of the youth leadership and transformation.

We hope that you join us, along with the Reform Sasscer Movement  for Prince George's County and the Prince George’s parent association, ACE_AFSCMELocal 2250, Association of Supervisory and Administrative School Personnel (ASASP) union and others in supporting Ms. Ahmed for our school board representative from District 5 on Tuesday November 6th.

Thank you,

Reform Sasscer Movement for Prince George’s County

The mission of the Reform Sasscer Movement is to transform the Prince George's  school system into one that builds on the strengths of young people, families, and help with transformation through innovative workable solutions. After the damage done by the previous county executive, we are ready to assist with the fight against corruption in order to create a world class educational system. To do this, we must identify leaders with integrity and support them all the way. They can be reached at reformsasscer@gmail.com.

The fact that Ms. Ahmed is in college makes her better candidate than 6 of the existing BOE members, where only 2 (TWO!) members have college degrees. If you aren't mad yet, you should be: http://www.washingtonpost.com/local/education/few-college-graduates-on-prince-georges-school-board/2012/11/04/4d2ddcba-23a0-11e2-ba29-238a6ac36a08_story.html?hpid=z6

Ms. Jacobs has her law degree...Mr. Sharp Shooter you certainly aren't comparing apples to apples when stating Ms. Ahmed to her because she is in college. I do agree that college is important...by electing Ms. Ahmed aren't you adding yet another board member without a degree?

PG never misses an opportunity to underachieve. Raheela will make a difference.

A degree is not everything, but it is something. You can't have a majority of people who set education policy who have no personal experience with educational success. There is a reason why PGCPS continues to produce mediocrity. New BOE members will be good for a change.
