I attended the Governor's Education Summit yesterday, and I was quite impressed with his knowledge and passion concerning the future of education in the state, and particularly within our county, and the man sure knows his website - intimately! (Go to http://www.governor.maryland.gov/education.asp to see his take on the situation) The shortfall of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) graduates that the state will need for both education and business is growing! We need to find a way to increase the 'popularity' of these disciplines among our youth, and to provide more scholarships for those inclined, or we will find ourselves sorely lacking among other states in the race for technology! It was encouraging that this disparity has been recognized, and is being addressed. Let's hope that some impetus will emerge from this summit to address these needs locally!
