People came together at two different churches in Bowie last weekend to participate in the Blankets of Hope project to create no-sew blankets for soldiers.

At All Saints Lutheran Church, Deborah Rice said volunteers completed 90 blankets.

"There were a lot of angels on hand to make the blankets and write the personal notes attached to each one," Rice wrote in an email. "We had seniors, children, Girl Scouts, community service groups, National Honor Society members, and church groups. It was amazing!"

Rice added that the church plans to make it an annual event.

Girl Scouts Troop 1849, made up of girls who attend Crofton Meadows Elementary School, and other volunteers also participated at Ascension Catholic Church. Volunteers made 280 blankets at the church, according to Jennifer Gibson.
