Burning Death in Bowie Under Investigation
A woman burned to death in the back of a cab on Aug. 17 after allegedly attempting to rob the cab driver.
Police are investingating the burning death of a woman last Friday who allegedly attempted to rob a cab driver and set him on fire.
According to police reports, Bowie Police officers noticed smoke coming from an office park on Northview Drive on Aug. 17. When officers arrived on the scene, they found a taxicab engulfed in flames and the driver outside of the vehicle with burns on his body.
The body of 30-year-old Jacqueline Renee Savoy was found in the rear passenger’s seat after the fire was extinguished, according to WUSA9.
The driver told police that he picked up Savoy at the Largo Metro Station and drove her to the address on Northview Drive where Savoy attempted to rob him, struck him and sprayed him with an unknown liquid. The driver alleged that Savoy ignited the liquid as he was trying to escape the vehicle, according to reports.
The cab driver was treated for minor burns at an area hospital and released, reported WUSA9. The fire and Savoy’s death are still under investigation by the Prince George’s County Fire Investigators and the Prince George's County Police homicide division.
