Bowie Teen to Deliver Commencement Address

Bowie teen Noor Tagouri has much to be proud of.

A 4.0 grade point average, a long list of volunteer activities, numerous academic achievements, and on Thursday, she adds one more: youngest graduate to deliver the student commencement address at Prince George’s Community College (PGCC).

The 18-year-old tested into the Honors Program at PGCC her junior year in high school, and she began taking courses at the college. This week, she will graduate with an associate of arts degree in general studies and a letter of recognition in events planning. She plans to attend UMd in the fall where she will study broadcast journalism and international development and conflict resolution.

“The moment I began at Prince George's Community College I discovered my passions, used it to fuel my college experience and opportunities,” said Tagouri in a press release. “The message I want to convey to our diverse student body at graduation is you will always pave a path to success and your dreams will always be attainable.”

As a student at PGCC, Tagouri’s academic achievements are many. They include Dean’s List, Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society, Honors Citation and graduating with Highest Honors. Tagouri also wrote for the Owl Student Newspaper, served as a math tutor, was public relations representative for the Muslim Student Association, president of the Muslim Student Association, founded and served as president of Green N' Fit, was events coordinator of the Public Speaking club, a member of the Amnesty International Club, and participated in the Pathways to Student Leadership Program.

In addition to her academic achievements, Tagouri volunteered for Thrive DC, “United We Stand” Conference, Muslimat Al-Nisaa Homeless Shelter for Women and Children and the DC Stop Modern Slavery Walk.

Tagouri is currently documenting the stories of Libyan freedom fighters for an upcoming book and working as an intern for the programming department at WPGC, 95.5 FM radio.

PGCC’s commencement exercises will take place on Thursday, May 24, 7 p.m. at The Showplace Arena in Upper Marlboro.
