Bowie State Students To See Tuition Hike, Fee Increase

In-state students will see a 4.6 percent increase in this year's tuition and fees bill.

For the third consecutive year, Bowie State University (BSU) undergraduates will face a tuition hike and fee increases, bringing full-time in state costs up to $6,639—a 4.6 percent increase over last year—according the fee schedule issued by the University System of Maryland (USM).

Tuition for the 2012-2013 school year will increase $136, or 3 percent. Fees will increase by $156, or 8.7 percent. Part-time undergraduate students can expect similar percentage increases. The BSU increases are part of a system USM tuition increase approved by the board of regents, according to the Baltimore Sun.

"It's a small enough number that I think the campuses will be able to absorb it without any significant impact to student services or to academic quality," said Chancellor William E. Kirwan in the Sun.

Any BSU parents/students out there? What do you think of the hike? Too small to make a difference, like Kirwan says, or are these increases happening too often?
