Bowie Names New City Clerk
Awilda Hernandez will replace Pamela A. Fleming as the city clerk.
The City of Bowie will welcome a new city clerk when Pamela A. Fleming retires from 41 years of service to the city, according to a press release from the City of Bowie.
Awilda Hernandez, who is the town clerk in Indian Head, MD, was chosen out of 200 applicants.
Hernandez has been the town clerk there since 2005. She is a certified municipal clerk and is working toward her master clerk designation.
Like Fleming, Hernandez is active in the Maryland Municipal Clerks Association—she serves as vice president. She also has been honored as Maryland Municipal Clerk of the Year.
Bowie City Manager David Deutsch said that Hernandez comes highly recommended by Indian Head Town Manager Ryan Hicks. Hernandez will assume her new duties in Bowie on April 30.
Fleming has worked for the city since 1970, initially as a clerk typist in the recreation office. She then worked as secretary to the city manager and started as city clerk in 1998.
She's retiring at the end of April to spend more time with family, traveling, and enjoying her many leisure pursuits, the release stated.
