Arthur Murray Dance Studio Swings Into Gambrills
The new studio opened in May and offers lesson packages for a variety of prices.
Local residents looking to make their toes twinkle during their first wedding dance or wow old classmates at a school reunion should check out one of the area's newest businesses.
The Arthur Murray Dance Studio at 1119-K Route 3 North in Gambrills offers lessons to singles or couples in traditional ballroom dances—including the foxtrot, tango, salsa, swing and more.
“We do mainly private dance lessons for adults; however, we teach people of all ages,” said the studio’s owner, J.R. Duncan.
Duncan also runs an Arthur Murray in Severna Park, and said many of his clients come over from Bowie and Crofton, so opening a studio in this area has been something he’s wanted to do for a long time.
“We’ve always liked the area and, with the recent growth, it seemed like the perfect opportunity,” said Duncan.
The new space opened on Route 3 in early May after extensive renovations. The studio sports high ceilings, bright windows, and a brand new floating red oak dance floor.
The studio also offers supplementary group lessons and dance parties three times a week for students, so that they can get in some extra practice.
Every two months, the studio also hosts a Saturday night dance that’s open to the public for a fee of $10 per person. The next one is July 14 from 7:30 to 10:00 pm. No dance lessons are offered, but residents will get a chance to see the studio and dance to all kinds of music.
This fall, students will also participate in the Chesapeake Ball, where they will compete with students from other Arthur Murray studios in Maryland and Pennsylvania.
Anyone new to Arthur Murray that's interested giving ballroom dancing a shot is welcome to go into the studio for a free lesson. Call 410-451-1161 for more information.
