Arrest Made in Robbery from Girl Scouts at Walmart

The primary suspect in the robbery of the Girl Scouts was apprehended late Wednesday night, according to police.

Police have made an arrest in selling cookies at the in Bowie late last month, Chief of Police John Nesky said.

Just after 11 p.m. on Wednesday night, Bowie Police apprehended the suspect after he was spotted by an officer near the 7-Eleven in the same shopping center where the theft occured, police said.

The detective investigating the theft recognized the suspect outside of the convenience store and when he attempted to stop him for questioning, the suspect fled on foot. After a foot chase, the detective was able to apprehend the suspect near the Walmart, according to a release from police.

The suspect is being charged as a juvenile with theft under $500 related to the theft of cash from the Girl Scout troop on Oct. 28. The investigation into the involvement of other possible suspects in this theft is ongoing.

The Bowie Police Department is helping the Girl Scouts make up the loss of funds that the troop suffered by collecting donations. Anyone wishing to make a donation may drop off or mail a check (not cash) to the Bowie Police Department. Checks should be made payable to Girl Scout Troop 2310. The Bowie Police Department is located at 15901 Excalibur Road, Bowie, MD 20716.
