Two men have been charged in connection with the theft of more than $1,700 worth of clothing from Helly Hansen on Friday, according to Annapolis police.

Officers responded to the store at 132 Main St. around noon after a store clerk reported two men ran out of the shop without paying for several items—including two $350 jackets and pants worth $500.

The clerk told police that she lost sight of the men after they ran up Hyde Alley, which is next to the store. An eyewitness reported seeing the pair get into a red, Mazda four-door vehicle and speed away towards King George Street.

Officers stopped the car at the BP Gas Station at 210 Ridgely Ave. and arrested David Nii Ofoli Ahinakwa, 22, of Bowie, and Jarrett Desmond Horton, 24, of Owings Mills.

While searching Ahinakwa, an officer found a 9mm semi-automatic Luger handgun hidden between his thighs.

In addition to the theft charges, police charged Ahinakwa with having a handgun in a vehicle and possession of a concealed, dangerous weapon. He also faces charges in Prince George's County for armed robbery stemming from a September arrest, according to online court documents.

Detective Amy Miguez told Patch in September that Helly Hansen is a frequent target for shoplifters because of its high-end merchandise and its location. 

In September, an officer drew a gun on two suspects who reportedly fled in their car after stealing from the store. In January 2012, city police chased two suspects into Arundel on the Bay community and charged them with stealing seven jackets totaling $2,100.
